CR-4 PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE/PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE TRAINEE

 

VACANCY: Positions are available from time to time in the Rockland County Department of Health.

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTS: Residence requirements for this examination have been waived.

SALARY: The starting salary is $28.89/hr. for a 35-hour-work-week with the County of Rockland. The starting salary for Trainee is $27.54/hr. for a 35-hour-work-week with the County of Rockland.

WHAT THE JOB IS LIKE: This is professional nursing work of a difficult nature involving the performance of a variety of public health nursing activities, including assessing nursing needs and implementing the plan of care for individuals and families. The incumbent may serve as a team leader in the provision of nursing services and may supervise professional and auxiliary nursing staff. The work is performed under the general supervision of a Supervising Public Health Nurse. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You must meet the following requirements: Possession of a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university and one year of paid, professional nursing experience under nursing supervision in a State or Federally licensed hospital, institution or agency.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a license issued by New York State to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse at the time of permanent appointment.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle license or accessibility to transportation to meet work requirements outside the office in a timely and efficient manner. Mileage for use of personal cars in connection with official business is paid for by the County.

NOTE: Individuals who meet the educational requirements but lack the experience requirements will be processed as Trainees. In the absence of an adequate number of fully qualified eligibles, trainees may be appointed. A trainee appointed from the list will, upon satisfactory completion of the in-service training (not to exceed 12 months), gain permanent competitive class status as a Public Health Nurse without further examination.

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: There will be no written or oral test for this examination. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience against the background of the duties of the position. It is essential, therefore, that candidates give complete and accurate information on their applications including Public Health Nursing experience and education beyond Sanitary Code requirements. Eligibility for appointment of each individual will be for a non-extendable one-year period from the date of eligibility, starting the date the application is approved and rated.
