The Administrative Division serves as the entryway to the Health Department’s programs and services. Its purpose is to serve all Rockland County residents and to act as the central support to all of the Divisions of the Health Department. The Division is committed to assisting all that seek help in diversified public health issues, programs or problems. Partnerships with other county agencies, not-for-profit organizations and community groups, help to achieve a continuous assessment of the health status of the Rockland community.
The
Rockland County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) System is comprised of
14 Volunteer Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulance Corps and 2 Advance
Life Support (ALS). The EMS coordinator, assistant EMS Coordinator, 6
Deputies and 1 Liaison oversee the functions of this Division.
Emergency response is provided to our 275,000 residents and visitors
24 hours a day and 365 days a year. With the assistance of our local
Police dispatch system, an ambulance can be rapidly sent to your
emergency.
The Environmental Health Division is concerned with the impact of
all actual and potential hazards in the environment and their influence on
the community’s health. Our goal is to ensure healthy, safe surroundings
at home, at work, in the community and outdoors. The Division utilizes
education, engineering, and enforcement to prevent and resolve
environmental health problems. Whenever possible, the Division seeks to
resolve these problems first through voluntary action rather than
regulatory authority.
Epidemiology The Division of
Epidemiology conducts epidemiological surveys and studies pertaining to
the evidence of communicable and noncommunicable diseases in Rockland
County. This involves monitoring of important health indicators in order
to determine trends in at-risk populations through the use of local and
regional enhanced surveillance systems. The Division maintains
statistical data and investigates disease outbreaks to determine the cause
and source and recommends methods to prevent further spread of disease. In
addition, the Epidemiologist regularly attends community meetings and
speaks at various venues on areas of public interest and concern.
Finance
The
Fiscal Division of the Rockland County Health Department is
responsible for all the financial and purchasing functions and
operations throughout the entire Health Department. The division
oversees an annual budget of $60M and administers over $3M of
federal and state grants. Regulatory and compliance issues related
to fiscal billing, reporting and documentation are maintained.
Health Education
The Rockland County
Health Department offers a variety of programs that are designed to
promote a healthy lifestyle and to encourage people to take
responsibility for their health. Experienced educators work in many
different settings to provide informational programs to the public,
which are developed to meet the needs of a specific age group,
ranging from childhood through adulthood.
Personnel
The Personnel staff of
the Rockland County Health Department is available to assist all
current staff of the Department. If you wish to apply for a position

Public Health Nursing and Patient Services
The Division of Public Health Nursing and Patient Services provides
a wide variety of clinical programs through its staff of public
health nurses. These registered professional nurses conduct health
assessments, nursing care and health education in clinics including
prenatal care, sexually transmitted diseases, women’s health and
tuberculosis. In addition, the nursing staff under physician orders
provides home care services for both short-term acute needs and for
patients requiring more long-term care.
Public Health Social Work
The division of Public Health Social Work includes licensed social
workers, nurses, special educators, and other trained professionals.
They are available to meet the psycho/social needs of any county
resident. Consultations are available for individuals experiencing
problems obtaining entitlements, referrals to programs and more. A
wide range of services are offered for all life stages and needs
including children demonstrating delayed development, physically
handicapped individuals, people with infectious disease and the
elderly. The Division works closely with other Divisions to support
their services when necessary. Social workers are also present at
the various Health Department
clinics and are able to make home and hospital visits to eligible
patients. |
