County Hosts Public Information Session on County-Wide Bus Stop Study and Route 59 Corridor Transit Operations Study

NEW CITY, NY – County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef has announced that a public information session for the County-Wide Bus Stop Study and the Route 59 Corridor Transit Operations Study will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007. The event will take place between 6 and 8 pm at the Finkelstein Memorial Library Fielding Room (24 Chestnut Street, Spring Valley). Residents are invited to see and hear about the findings of the Study and provide input.

The Study was undertaken by the Rockland County Department of Planning and Public Transportation in conjunction with the consultant team of Edwards and Kelcey, Inc.; Cambridge Systematics, Inc.; and KKO and Associates, LLC. The purpose of the Bus Stop Study was to define existing conditions of County bus stop policies and utilization, develop a recommended bus stop program that could address planning and policies for future County bus stop and transit operations, and develop a "Bus Stop Blueprint" package for conceptual design purposes.

The Route 59 Corridor Transit Operations Study has defined existing transit conditions along the corridor, explored improvement alternatives, forecast ridership and transit demand, and recommended short- and mid-term alternatives to serve existing and future transit demands along the Route 59 corridor.

The Federal Transit Administration provided funding for these studies as part of the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation grant program. No County tax dollars were utilized for the effort. For further information on the County-Wide Bus Stop Study and the Route 59 Corridor Transit Operations Study Public Meeting, please contact Patrick Gerdin at the Rockland County Planning Department at 364-3231.
