| County of Rockland Department of Planning & Public Transportation Susan Meyer (845) 364-3445 March 30, 2007 Public Meeting Will Review Region’s 2008-2012 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) POMONA, NY – The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) is hosting a series of public meetings for residents in the region to learn about projects in their area that are part of the proposed 2008-2012 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Mid-Hudson South region's (Lower Hudson Valley) meetings – which will discuss projects in Rockland, Westchester and Putnam Counties – will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at 3:30 pm and 6 pm at the Westchester County Center (198 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY). Other meetings in the region will be held on April 9 in Long Island, and on April 16 in Manhattan. The TIP is a five-year program that identifies all proposed federally funded transportation projects in the NYMTC region. These projects cover various transportation modes and facilities, including roadways and bridges, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, transit equipment and services, safety improvements and demand management programs. Projects funded through other sources are also identified to provide a more comprehensive picture of proposed transportation projects in the region. Other projects in the County that were awarded funding include the NYS Department of Transportation’s Route 303/Orangeburg Road intersection improvement project; the Town of Ramapo’s Monsey Glen Bike/Ped path, Route 59 sidewalk project and improvements to the College Road/Highview Road intersection; the Town of Clarkstown’s improvements to Middletown Road/Little Tor Road at Germonds/Burda and Germonds Road at the northbound Palisades Parkway; and the Town of Orangetown’s traffic signal improvements and Highway Department Diesel Retrofit project. Projects identified in the TIP are based on both the NYMTC members’ proposals and a 2006 region-wide public solicitation. The improvement proposals from this solicitation were then evaluated based on their relevance to the Regional Transportation Plan and to the criteria of the relevant Federal funding programs. |
